I Corinthians 14:19
February 2009
"Ask and it will
be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be
opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and
to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son
asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will
give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give
good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven
give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others
what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the
Prophets.”
- Matthew 7:7-12
Dear
Saints at CVBC,
Every
provision, every incentive for courage or faith, our Father will give
us. For each action – asking, seeking and knocking – there is a
promised, favorable response from our Lord. And these are not harsh or
complicated instructions; they make sense to us. They make up our
everyday lives. Neighbors open doors to us, friends answer our phone
calls (if the caller ID is working!), and children; well, they just ask,
but we really do give them what they need! So we are familiar with
Jesus’ concepts (which is why he used them, of course!).
Our
responsibility, then, is to trust him. As we think about the world we
find ourselves in, whether it be sunny or grey, made of mountain tops or
valleys, smiles or worries, we must hold to this fact: how much more
will our Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him. How much
more will he provide for our lives in every way imaginable. Be not
fearful nor dismayed. The Lord our God is near to those who call on his
name.
God’s
grace to you as we weather these last few winter weeks.
Much love to all in
Christ,
Pastor
Richard
